Area Youth Orchestras

Utah Youth Symphony Orchestra / Utah Youth Philharmonic,
and Utah Youth Junior Symphony
- at the University of Utah

Conducted by an amazing mentor or mine, Barbara Scowcroft (Utah Symphony Violinist),  these orchestras gives students of various skill levels a chance to perform unabridged symphonic works - with full strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion.  I got my orchestral start in Barbara's group, and I still remember how exciting it was to play those huge symphonies at a young age.

Now I am fortunate to get to coach some of the cello sectionals and witness that same excitement in the next generation of musicians.  Utah Youth Junior Symphony is for intermediate students and the UY Symphony and UY Philharmonic are for more advanced players in high school.

Rehearsals are usually at Libby Gardner Hall on the University of Utah Campus, on Fridays at 4:00 (UY Philharmonic group) or Saturday mornings at 9:00am (UY Symphony group).

For auditions and to learn more, visit their website at www.utahyouthsymphony.org or email them at  uysymphony@msn.com  or  communications@utahyouthsymphony.org

Young Artist Chamber Players
The Young Artist Chamber Players (YACP) was founded by Jack Ashton in 1985. Since then, excellent string players along the Wasatch Front have enjoyed participating in this quality chamber orchestra.  This orchestra is for serious music students in 9th grade and up and in Suzuki Book VII+.

Also, the Wasatch Mountain Camerata (Suzuki Book VI level) and Youth Chamber Orchestra (Suzuki Book IV level).
Part of YACP, our 3 younger orchestras are a good place for string players to learn how to play in an orchestra, in all levels of ability.
