New Student Information

Beginner Level Students:

For younger and beginning level students, I like to get started with 30 minute lesson times.  For older and more advanced students,  45 minute to one-hour lesson times are encouraged.  Please contact me for current tuition rates.   Because I am a full-time performing musician, I charge on a per-lesson basis - I find that to be a more fair arrangement, in case I need to reschedule a lesson to accommodate a rehearsal or performance engagement.

My teaching studio is down the hall from the orchestra rehearsal room in the 800 building of the Waterford School, in Room 803.  I will meet new students in the hallway before our first lesson to show you to my room.  I would really encourage parents to attend the first couple of lessons so that you can help your child if he or she has any questions about what we talked about as we are getting started.

------------------

For our first lesson, I would like you to pick up at least the following two books:

"Essential Elements for Strings"  - for Cello,  Book 1

 http://www.sharmusic.com/Shop-Shar/Sheet-Music/Cello/Cello-Method-Books/Essential-Elements-2000-Book-1---Cello---Book-CD-DVD-set---by-Allen-Gillespie-and-Hayes---Hal-Leonard-Publication.axd

and

"I Can Read Music" - for Cello, Volume 1

http://www.sharmusic.com/Shop-Shar/Suzuki/Cello-School/Supplemental-Materials/Martin-Joanne---I-Can-Read-Music-Volume-1---Cello---Alfred-Music-Publishing.axd

I like to begin using the Suzuki School Books (Book 1, etc) once we have passed of all of the material in Essential Elements, Book 1.  I also encourage you to purchase the accompanying CD's with each level of Suzuki.

All of these books are easily found at the music shops in town, like Day Murray Music (4914 S. State Street) or online at Amazon or at www.sharmusic.com

---------------

The other requirement is for students to have their own Tuner and Metronome for use at home.  They make a great All-In-One version called  "Korg TM 50". They are pretty cheap on Amazon.com:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00923H7MA/ref=twister_B00923G9Q0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

-----------------

Most incoming 5th and 6th grade students will need a half or 3/4 sized cello.  The people at Charles Liu Violins (7450 S. State Street, Sandy) or Scoggins & Scoggins or the other violin shops in town are able to help measure and get you set up with a rental, if that's what you would like to do.

Here is a link to the lesson schedule.  It requires the password that I gave to you.  Feel free to let me know by email or text if you would like to sign up for any "OPEN" lesson time.

Please also review my studio and lesson policies here.   It's a dry read, but it's important.  It has some pretty standard stuff like my cancellation policy, etc.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions and please let me know when you are ready to sign up for a lesson time.

Thanks very much!  I'm excited to get started!
